How to Assess an Apparel Manufacturer in Pakistan: A Buyer's Checklist

· 6 min read · Khairay Group

Short answer: judge an apparel manufacturer on evidence, not claims. Ask to see the product categories they actually make, how they sample and approve, where they check quality, how minimum quantities are calculated for your product, and who you will deal with day to day. Then order a paid sample before committing to bulk production.

1. Product fit

  • Do they make your type of garment — knit, woven, denim, outerwear, sportswear or accessories?
  • Can they show comparable products, and are images labelled as real production or illustrative?
  • Which materials and decoration methods (printing, embroidery, labels) can they handle for your product?

2. Development and sampling

  • What do they need to start: a tech pack, a reference garment or a sketch?
  • How many sample rounds are usual, and how is feedback recorded?
  • Is the final sample approved in writing before bulk production?

3. Quality control

  • At which stages are garments checked — before, during and after production?
  • Are measurements checked against your size chart?
  • How are inspection results shared before shipment?

4. Minimums, pricing and timelines

  • Is the minimum order counted per style, per colour or per order?
  • What changes the price: fabric, decoration, trims, packaging, quantity?
  • Are timelines confirmed in writing after the brief is reviewed and materials are checked?

5. Communication and transparency

  • Who is your contact, and how quickly do they respond?
  • Are the business name, address and contact details consistent across the website and documents?
  • Can you see the production stages, through a visit, a video walkthrough or a factory tour?

6. Claims to verify

Certifications, compliance audits, export markets and customer names should be backed by documents you can check. If a supplier lists a certification, ask for the certificate and confirm it is current and covers the facility that will make your order.

Start small, then scale

A paid sample and a first order at a manageable quantity let you test fit, quality and communication before committing to larger volumes. Pakistan's apparel and textile manufacturing base, including Sialkot's long experience in sportswear and leather goods, makes it a strong sourcing option — but each manufacturer should still be judged on its own evidence.
